It was an early morning to meet Tim for his Shakespeare walking tour. We went around to various historical sights of importance while he gave us a plethora of information regarding each. The sites of where the original Rose and Globe theaters once stood was interesting. The Rose was discovered when they were building, so it literally is under that building and the Globe site is in a car park. It was a good adventure ending us at Borough Market for lunch.
Once I finished my grilled cheese sandwich Jen and I made our way to Selfridges. This was on my “must see” list because I’m a fan of the Classic Masterpiece television show of the same name. With six floors Selfridges was a bit of retail overload. The best way I can explain it to those back home is take Nordstrom, times it by ten in luxury and refinement and you may end up with Selfridges. I’ve never seen so many designers under one roof of a department store.
Another highlight in the trip to Selfridges was when we went to the foreign food area and they had an American section. Jen and I just laughed, and I think we got a little homesick for some American classics. I will tell you right now the ten pound Aunt Jemima pancake mix almost came home (back to the flat) with me, I miss pancakes, I miss pancakes a lot.
We walked back down Oxford Street and found a great clothing store named Primark. It’s nice clothing for a nice price. They were so busy it literally was about an hour wait for a fitting room and so I just picked up a few things. I definitely will be back!
The way back to the flat was through Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens. It was a lovely evening and so we sat and watched the pidgins, ducks, and swans. A good way to end the day.
