A class day, meaning hop out of bed, get ready in a hurry, grab a granola bar, and head to class. This routine is not vastly different from the one I have at home, however this is a bit more frantic with all twenty of us getting ready and leaving around the same time. The kitchen gets a great deal of action between 9:10 and 9:40, hence partly why I just grab a quick something and head on my way.
We discussed Shakespeare’s writing style, iambic pentameter, prose, free verse, heroic couplet, etc. And in contemporary drama we had a good discussion about King Charles III, which I think is my favorite contemporary play we have seen thus far. We also got our weekly agenda, and to put it bluntly: I’m going to be busy this week, damn busy.
After class I walked up to the sandwich shoppe in our area. Tandoori chicken baguette with salad (meaning they put lettuce on the sandwich) was my flavor of the day and it was off to eat in the park. Yet, once again, the park, it was a good little break.
There was a lecture given by one of the greatest modern Shakespeare actors, Stephen Boxer. We will see him in King Lear as Gloucester later this month. Hearing of the process in getting the production up and running was nice, with character development, actor choices, director choices, etc. He had a way of talking about Shakespeare acknowledging that it is difficult, yet give advice on how to explore and work with the text. He worked with Meryl Streep (I believe on The Iron Lady) and talked about how interesting it was to work with her, how funny she was, and how she really embodied her role.
Since the next little while looks extremely busy I decided to get laundry done. Boy I take my washer and dryer for granted… Well, at least it’s done, sort of. I’m sure my roomies won’t mind jeans, towels, and socks scattered about our room. Right?
