Woke up and got ready for my day at Warner Brothers Harry Potter Studio. I’m not the biggest HP fan, but this seemed like a good thing to do, and what can I say, peer pressure. However, I’m really glad I went actually.
There was a group of about ten of us that made our way to Warner Brothers Studios: Making of Harry Potter. After about a twenty-five minute train ride north of London, and a fifteen minute bus ride you find yourself at the studio where a large majority of the Harry Potter filming took place. Here is where the adventure begins.
Once inside you walk through various rooms containing sets, props, costumes, etc., from the series. There were several things that I had forgotten about the movies, and reconnecting with those memories was enjoyable. I even had a butter beer and walked on the Hogwarts Bridge. The prosthetics area was interesting, and I learned a lot by asking Jen (being this is her emphasis). My favorite was the large model of Hogwarts (it was fantastic). Soon it was back on the bus and train for me, another show.

Fathers and Sons by Brian Friel at the Donmar theatre was the show of the evening. Based upon Ivan Turgenev’s novel, the play was emotional, moving and beautifully tragic. Dealing with familial relationships, friendship, and romance stories gracefully collide and become entangled in an ever-so compelling way. It reminded me of Chekov in the way conflict between characters are understated, almost mysterious, but emotional. I liked how the production chose to illustrate these ideas in their design and acting, good direction.
It was a busy day. I still can’t believe my days left are so few. I knew time was going by very quickly, but can’t it slow down for just a day, week, or two?
