With legs, feet, and back sore from the long walks of Oxford yesterday I made it to the British Museum today. The amount of history crammed into such a small space was bewildering and impressive. With the few hours spent there I got to see a HUGE amount of things from varying countries and time periods. As I think I’ve stated all this week, it was a busy day!
A few highlights from the British Museum are: the ceiling (connecting the outer buildings to the inner circle, see pictures), the Rosetta Stone, so many of the statues from Ancient Greece and Rome, the sarcophagi, the Japanese screens, the Greek and Roman pottery, and lastly the historical moment of seeing the 7-11 in a Japanese contemporary photo. I think it was out of exhaustion, but the 7-11 made me burst into laughter (Jen just looked at me).
After the museum Jen and I got ice-cream and made our way back to the flat. The rest of the day was spent relaxing, catching up on things, and processing everything I’ve looked at these past few days. Hopefully it won’t all just run together, however it makes it easier when activities and things are so different from one another. Jen and I chilled out by watching Pretty Woman, I forgot how much of a fascination I have with this movie.
In conclusion, what I got out of today was how little I actually know about the world. I have so many interests: different countries, cultures, and histories, I am reminded how little of these I actually know. I, also, find it odd that I haven’t explored these interests any further. I see myself taking inspiration of what I’ve seen and use it to my advantage within my work. Not only within my work, but by observing patterns of history I may better understand the entire world, and my world much more than I do presently.
