Today was full of the question: Why the hell am I still sick? Answered with: Well of course you are sick, it’s the crunch time of the trip, AND you really need to change your train of thought Aaron, thinking sickness will only breed more sickness. I hope the last sentence made some sort of sense, if not, I’m sorry, but I’m sick of being sick!
Anyway… The day was full of resting, eating (whatever was on my pantry shelf, the combinations are unspeakable), and preparing for the evening show at the Globe. We were so lucky with our last production, Titus Andronicus, I sincerely hoped I would be as pleasantly surprised with Antony and Cleopatra. Well, I was surprised, but not pleasantly, at least not by the weather. About a quarter of the way through the rain started. It was already a little chilly, and the rain didn’t help comfort levels in any way.
I do have to say though, being packed together and then being really packed together for warmth are two very different things. With the first, packed together, one tends to be irritated and a little annoyed with the potentially wandering hands, bumps, and body parts of others touching oneself. Comparatively, really packed together for warmth, serves a superior purpose. “Stand-spooning,” as I will call it, combined with being bumped, and moving hands all combine in an effort to stay warm. It may not always work, but I will tell you we all gave it one hell of a shot. Somehow being in such close proximity of a complete stranger seems quite natural, an experience I had only felt at a dance club until tonight.
As for the production: Even with the weather it still remained entertaining and enjoyable. I am a big fan of the actress playing Cleopatra, Eve Best, from the Showtime series Nurse Jackie. She was breathtaking and even held onto my shoulder when she came down the steps in front of the stage. Sometimes it pays to be the tall man in the room, or rather the taller groundling. Also, there were a couple design choices that stood out as a little odd to me (like a good deal of everything being red) and sometimes things seemed a bit forced. However, once again the caliber of the production as a whole was superb. My favorite part was Cleopatra’s death, closely followed by the men’s fight/choreography.
Back to the flat! Closely resembling a “peop-sicle” I walked across the bridge with my classmates. Jen and I held onto one another as we made it across the bridge, free ourselves ever so often to take photos. I was, fun.
Once I got back to the flat I ate a frozen pizza and it took me only a short time to list the reasons why I am still sick. I’m hoping the events of the evening didn’t set me back too much in my recovery. However, I’m on limited time now, so I don’t really have time to dilly-dally. Tomorrow’s a class plus two show day… give me strength.
